The Perfect Shot

CAPSTONE FILM - SHORT NARRATIVE

CREATED BY: Blake Tai, Corina Huang, Shani Walker, Sophia Aizon

Determined to win a spooky photo competition, a trio of friends led by headstrong Jackie set out to explore an abandoned research facility. They’re armed with nothing but a torch, a Polaroid camera, and blithe optimism. As they goof their way deeper into the building, oblivious to the warning signs, Jackie soon learns the hard way to be careful what you wish for – and that some things matter more than capturing the perfect shot.

Film Teaser

A Light Touch

My teammates and I wanted to create a film that was both engaging and fun to watch, as well as to work on. The premise evokes the same goofy antics we've had playing co-op horror games. As for our animation style and comedic gags, we drew inspiration from various anime and the Saturday morning cartoons we grew up watching.Throughout this project, I explored how visual style can enhance a narrative's storytelling, specifically through the use of colour scripts, background art, and compositing effects.

I was the colour designer and lead compositor for this project. Throughout the duration of this film, I found myself constantly being pushed to improve and deepen my passion for these fields of work. Other roles I worked in were rough animator, clean-up animator, background artist, concept artist, and voice actor.

No More Vivaldi

ANIMATED DOCUMENTARY

No More Vivaldi

This film retells my Dad's maddening music experience while working on an oil rig in the 80s.

Using authentic dialogue from interviews with my Dad, I wanted to capture the engaging ‘story time’ type of conversations I listened to growing up.

This solo project allowed me to work through the entire 2D animation pipeline, from concepting and storyboarding all the way to the final composite. I learned so much from this project, such as colour scripting and how to effectively tell an engaging story in a short time.

No More Vivaldi - BREAKDOWN VIDEO

This film was awarded Bronze at the 2025 Best Awards. It was also selected as a WAFF (Wellington Animation Film Festival) Best of NZ & FR Student Films.I had the privilege to attend the WAFF student panel in person. It was shown live in the Roxy cinema, where I shared my creative process and answered questions about the project.

CHARACTER AND ANIMAL ANIMATED SHORT

Nearing the end of a long journey through the Himalayas, a child and their yak companion enjoy a moment in the sunrise.

With this 15-second short, I wanted to showcase an interaction between a human and an animal. My aim was to explore a distinctive colouring style, taking advantage of TVPaint's texture capabilities.

Fantastic Mr Fox REANIMATED

Reanimated Collaboration

A Light Touch

This is my shot from the Fantastic Mr Fox REANIMATED video hosted by @cat.glass on Instagram and YouTube. For this project, many artists with varying styles and animation practices each created their own reimagined version of shots from Wes Anderson's 2009 movie. I'm so grateful to have met and worked with such a range of talented artists and animators from around the world.

Although I was very short on time to finish this, I had a lot of fun reinterpreting this dialogue-heavy shot in my own style. I wanted to carry over that charisma Mr Fox's voice had from the original. My favourite part was animating the three younger foxes in the background, as they rummage through the store's food.

LIP SYNC

A short lip sync exercise for my Animated Drawing class. This was my first time attempting a lip sync so while I'm not 100% happy with the animation, I am proud of what I learned from this.

I thought having the two characters be the subject matter of the debate would be a bit funny :2

Postwoman Walk

Looping WALK CYCLE

Here's a short looping animation I created as I began my journey using Toon Boom Harmony. In the making of this animation, I became familiar with the program's intricate but helpful node system.I've always been a fan of artworks that combine or take inspiration from existing graphic design, so I couldn't help myself from making it look like a postcard.

Fireworks Festival

LOOPING SHORT

A 10-second short created for my 1st-year Animated Drawing class. This puppet was animated in Adobe After Effects with the assets drawn in Clip Studio Paint.

The prompt was 'seated figure.'

Mynth

3D CREATURE ANIMATION

Mynth is a creature design group project for my 2nd year Animation class.Created in Toon Boom

During this project, I focused on developing character designs, creating storyboards, and animatics. I also animated the first shot in the sequence.

Dooka

3D STAR WARS DIORAMA

Dooka's a Star Wars-inspired droid created for my first year animation class. They spend their time caring for the Jawa who have cobbled together Dooka's unique body. This project challenged my teammate and me to design a droid that could fit into the Star Wars universe.I had a lot of fun trying to bring this character to life, from coming up with their backstory, to adding little details on their model and environment.
